The government has extended Enforcement Directorate (ED) Director Rahul Navin's tenure by a year beyond August 13, 2026, according to a order released on Sunday.Navin (59) is a 1993-batch Indian Revenue Service officer of the Income Tax cadre and has been leading the federal anti-money laundering agency as its full-time chief since August 14, 2024.He holds a B.Tech and M.Tech degree from IIT-Kanpur and an MBA from the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne. Navin has also authored several books, journals and articles on international taxation and transfer pricing issues related to direct taxation.Also read: JPSC Row: Jharkhand govt to recommend ED probe, set up fast-track courtThe official order issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Saturday stated that the government has approved extension in tenure of Navin as ED Director for a period of one year beyond August 13, 2026, i.e. up to August 13, 2027, including extension in service beyond the date of his superannuation, i.e. July 31, 2027, or until further orders whichever is earlier, according to PTI.ET BureauIn September 2023, Navin was made acting director of the probe agency.During Navin's tenure, the ED has continued and launched several high-profile investigations including those related to the political consultancy firm I-PAC and multiple online money gaming companies. His service tenure has seen the probe agency focusing on multiple cases of frauds by real estate giants against homebuyers with ED using powers under the anti-money laundering law to restore assets worth crores of rupees to the victims.The agency also initiated processes to quicken litigation going on for years by getting adjudicated cases registered under the repealed Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) and initiating compounding under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).Earlier on Friday, Navin arrived in Kerala to review the cases being probed by the agency's Kochi unit, including the one involving mining company CMRL and its financial dealings with Exalogic, the now-defunct firm of Veena T, daughter of former CM Pinarayi Vijayan, sources told PTI.His Kerala visit came in the wake of the attack on the agency's officials on May 27 when they were leaving a rented house of Vijayan after carrying out a search there in connection with the CMRL-Exalogic case.
