Collector Anand Mohan and Superintendent of Police Vishwesh Balasubramaniam Shastri on Sunday flagged off a six-km awareness run organised by the district police on the theme ‘Nellai on a Drug-Free Path.’Speaking at the event, Mr. Mohan said the energy and potential of youth were far greater than any drugs, and urged young people to channel their potential on the right path to achieve their future goals. “It is heartening to see a large number of people participating in the event in the early hours of the day. As the youth are the future of the country, they have a responsibility to lead the nation in the years to come.”Emphasising that drug addiction affected not only an individual’s life but also their entire family, he urged the youth not to ruin their lives by falling prey to drugs. Youngsters must adopt a healthy lifestyle by taking part in sports and exercise, he added.Mr. Mohan joined the participants and completed the awareness run.The run began on by-pass road in Tharuvai and ended at Suthamalli road, covering a tidal distance of 6 km.A large number of police personnel, students and youngsters participated in the awareness run.
