Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary M. Veerapandian claimed on Sunday, (August 9, 2026), that delimitation is a political conspiracy.He inaugurated the padyatra of CPI cadre as part of their nation-wide padyatra and public outreach campaign at Tiruchengode in Namakkal district on Sunday.Later, Mr. Veerapandian told reporters that the party is against delimitation. He alleged that the Union government’s attempt to reduce the number of seats for south Indian States and increase those for north Indian States is a political conspiracy. The CPI had participated in the MP’s meeting chaired by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. Parties should keep aside politics and unite on this issue. The Cauvery and Mekedatu dam are related to Tamil Nadu's rights. The court verdict regarding the Cauvery issue should be implemented. Tamil Nadu is facing water shortage and the Mekedatu dam should not be constructed. The CPI demands that an all-party meeting be conducted on the Cauvery issue, Mr. Veerapandian added.Regarding the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government's first budget, the CPI secretary said that the new government is facing a financial crisis. The government will need to secure loans and the Union Government should provide financial support. It is not reasonable to expect solutions for long-pending problems within two months. The past government's welfare schemes should continue and there should be no change to project names. At any cost, people's welfare schemes should continue, the CPI secretary added.In response to question on Tamil Nadu slipping to 17th place from 6th place in attracting industrial investments, Mr. Veerapandian said that the CPI’s view on investments differs. A country’s development is not solely based on foreign investments. The current developments are possible due to the hard work of labourers and experts. Foreign investors will expect a return of one lakh rupees for an investment of ₹100. Self-reliance is the only way for a country to develop, the CPI secretary added.
