Hyderabad is stepping into the future with India’s first phydigital Information Age Museum. Mapping 70 years of the country’s tech history, the mobile museum being set up at the city’s Indian Institute of Technology will take visitors through the birth and rise of the IT industry and the digital and AI revolutions. This will be the first of a chain of Information Age museums and has been put together by a group of ex-TCS veterans, including S Ramadorai and S Mahalingam with the goal of showcasing the country’s tech achievements. The veterans set up the Forum of Erstwhile TCS Leaders and IT Advisors (FORTESS) a few years ago to roll out this project. The maiden IAM Ignite at IIT Hyderabad has an outlay of ₹4 crore. The 2,200-sq ft museum, housed in three containers, is slated for launch by the end of 2026. It will have 11 installations, display objects and an immersion zone, engaging about 25 visitors at any time. Students from 60-70 schools will be invited to see the artefacts and interact with technology.
