NewsUK NewsNorthern IrelandPolice are still investigating what happened to the car for it to be set alight10:56, 09 Aug 2026Updated 11:04, 09 Aug 2026Police are investigating after the body of a man was discovered inside a burning car in Northern Ireland.‌Local police in Portadown, Co Armagh, said the victim was found inside a car on fire in the Harford Street area of the town on Saturday night. He was pronounced dead at the scene.‌Firefighters swarmed the scene at around 10pm where crews managed to extinguish the blaze, reports Belfast Live.‌“Ammunition technical officers were also tasked to the scene to conduct relevant inquiries – we can confirm there is no risk to the public,” they said.“Significant damage was caused to the car, as well as a number of windows smashed and scorch damage observed to a neighbouring property in the area.”Police added: “Sadly, we can confirm the body of a man who was located inside the vehicle.‌“He was pronounced deceased at the scene and a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course to determine the cause of death.“The circumstances surrounding what happened are still under investigation and inquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.“We would appeal to anyone who was in the area and witnessed what happened to make contact with us on 101.”‌DUP Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart added it was a very sad morning in Portadown.“First and foremost, my thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the deceased. Behind this news is a family facing the most devastating circumstances, and they should be very much in our thoughts this morning,” she said.“A police cordon remains in place and the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are not yet known.
