There is currently no way to completely prevent being diagnosed with cancer. While there are some genetic components as to why cancer occurs, lifestyle choices such as a diet heavy with processed foods and a sedentary life do increase the risk of a cancer diagnosis. Taking to X, internal medicine specialist Dr Priyam Bordoloi revealed five simple habits that can go a long way in reducing the risk of a cancer diagnosis and improving longevity. Walk 10 Minutes After A MealWalking for ten minutes after a meal lowers the glucose rise more effectively than a walk before the meal. Don’t Have Piping Hot Tea/CoffeeBecause recurrent heat injury can harm the oesophagus, regularly consuming liquids above 65°C is considered likely to cause cancer. Before taking a taste, let it get just warm enough to be comfortable.— DocPriyamMD (@DocPriyamMD) Avoid Processed MeatsA daily consumption of 50 g, or about one hot dog, is associated with an 18% increased relative risk of colorectal cancer.Make the easy swap: beans, lentils, eggs, fish or fresh chicken.Eat More Whole Grains“Replace one serving of white bread, white rice or sugary cereal with oats, barley, brown rice or whole-grain bread.Around three servings of whole grains daily is associated with a 17% lower colorectal cancer risk…” he wrote. Don’t Eat Mouldy Nuts Or GrainsThe doctor suggested: Certain types of mold that develop on foods such as peanuts, maize, rice and tree nuts can generate harmful substances known as aflatoxins. These naturally occurring toxins can damage DNA and prolonged exposure to them has been linked to an increased risk of liver cancer. For safety, nuts and grains that show visible signs of fungal growth, unusual discoloration, or a shrivelled and deteriorated appearance should be thrown away rather than salvaged. Simply removing the visibly affected portion may not make the food safe, because fungal contamination and its toxins can extend beyond the area that is immediately noticeable.
One habit that will barely take 10 minutes can lower risk of cancer diagnosis and improve longevity. Doctor says, 'You do not need a workout…’
While you cannot 100% prevent the occurrence of cancer (there is a genetic component to cancer), there indeed are some lifestyle changes you can adopt to make your life healthier and boost longevity.
