New Delhi: India Energy Week (IEW) will move to Kolkata next year, a year after a Rs 1,000-crore exhibition-cum-convention centre in Goa was inaugurated and touted as a permanent venue for the annual energy conference.The next edition of India Energy Week (IEW) will be held from January 28 to 31, 2027, at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town, Kolkata, according to an announcement on the event's LinkedIn page.The move marks a shift for the annual conference, which was held at the newly built 4,000-seat convention centre at state-owned ONGC's Advanced Training Institute (ATI) in pristine south Goa.The Goa venue was positioned as a permanent home for the flagship energy event when it was built by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) at breakneck speed.Kolkata's selection comes after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the West Bengal assembly elections, taking power in the state for the first time."A landmark 5th edition of India Energy Week demands an unforgettable scale," IEW's LinkedIn page said. We're setting its agenda," he said.ONGC in a separate post said: "Kolkata, the energy is coming. India's biggest energy conversations are heading east as #IndiaEnergyWeek 2027 arrives in the City of Joy!"The then West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee had inaugurated the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town, Kolkata on October 13, 2017.Built to host major international summits, business meets, and cultural events, the 18-storey facility features a massive 3,200-seater auditorium and advanced convention infrastructure including an exhibition centre, multiple seminar rooms, banquet spaces, multi-level car parking, and an adjoining 100-key hotel block.In February 2024, a makeshift conference centre at the unused portion of the vast land at ONGC's IPSHEM training facility in south Goa was used to host a second edition of IEW, as convention centres that could hold an event of that size elsewhere in the country were unavailable. And there germinated the idea of building a permanent facility to add another chapter to Goa's tourism.Puri first spoke about it and weeks later ONGC began approving one of its largest non-core infrastructure projects in recent years. Approvals came in remarkable speed, and the centre was built at neck-breaking speed.Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had in his Independence Day address on August 15, 2024, announced that the coastal state would serve as the permanent venue for the annual IEW.The 2025 edition of IEW took place in Delhi, but the 2026 edition was hosted in the new facility in Goa. The convention and exhibition facility at the ATI campus was positioned as a venue for large conferences and marquee events, but no significant event has taken place at the site since IEW 2026.The oval-shaped Convention Center has a seating capacity of around 4,000 persons at a time. It comprises a VVIP room, a VVIP green room, two VIP rooms, two VIP lounges, a CEO's meeting room, 5 CEO's translator rooms, bilateral rooms, office spaces, 3 lounges, a dining hall, dry pantries, elevators/escalators and a large foyer.The 8,353 sq meters rectangular-shaped Management Development Facility (MDF) comprises of offices space, dining hall, conference rooms, 182 seater auditorium, VIP Lounge, office rooms, breakout rooms, 8 syndicate rooms, and 11 classrooms, while the 6,669 sq mt exhibition hall is designed to accommodate large trade fairs and expos.The campus also features a floating jetty and a helipad with four parking points, providing connectivity by sea, air and road. The jetty connects the venue to all leading hotels and resorts on the 15-km beachline in South Goa.
