Boating facility at Vennamadai tank on Courtallam-Aintharuvi Road was inaugurated for tourists on Saturday.After inaugurating the service at the facility, District Revenue Officer M. Veerasamy said that lakhs of tourists from Tamil Nadu as well as other States and countries visit Courtallam waterfalls every year, which is considered as one of the great tourist destinations in southern Tamil Nadu. He added that the district administration was taking several measures to improve tourism infrastructure in the district.He noted, as part of these efforts, the Saral festival was held every year and the boating facility at the tank usually opens a few days after the commencement of the festival. However, this year owing to the failure of monsoon, the boating at Vennamadai tank commenced only after the conclusion of the Saral festival, he said.The boating facility at Vennamadai tank charges ₹200 for a 30-minute ride on a two-seater pedal boat and ₹300 for a four-seater pedal boat. The facility will operate from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.The district administration has advised tourists to use safety gears while boating in tank, Mr. Veersamay said.District Tourism Officer N.
