Congress MP and Telangana Congress Disciplinary Committee Chairman Dr. Mallu Ravi on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of undermining democratic institutions and misusing Central investigative agencies for political gains.Speaking at Gandhi Bhavan, Dr. Ravi alleged that the BJP came to power in West Bengal through “undemocratic means” and abused its authority by using agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for political purposes.Referring to protests by the Gen Z community, he claimed that police action against the protesters resembled the treatment meted out to freedom fighters during the British era, when lathis were used to suppress dissent. The Congress leader also criticised the Union government, stating that the Union Home Minister did not attend Parliament despite important proceedings being underway. Drawing a distinction between different forms of protest movements, Dr. Mallu Ravi said that Naxalite movements operated outside the framework of the Constitution, whereas the Gen Z protesters conducted their agitation within constitutional limits.Taking aim at the BJP’s political ambitions in Telangana, Dr. Ravi said the party has openly declared that after West Bengal, its next target is Telangana. However, he asserted that the BJP’s prospects in the State remain weak and claimed there is no guarantee the party would even secure the third position in the next Assembly elections.Expressing confidence in the Congress, the LS MP said the party would return to power in Telangana with a decisive mandate in the next elections. He argued that comparing Telangana with West Bengal was inappropriate, as the political and social realities of the two States are fundamentally different. Published - August 08, 2026 08:14 pm IST
