Only a few more weeks until a massive change at the top of Apple: The era of Tim Cook ends, and that of John Ternus as CEO begins. In the run-up to the change of leadership on September 1st, when Cook will move to the Supervisory Board (Board of Directors) as Chairman to then be Apple's “top diplomat”, Ternus, who was previously head of hardware, is making his first moves. This had already been indicated in recent months, for example through the promotion of chip boss Johny Srouji to Ternus' former position. Now the new boss is making further management moves.
Hinge function for long-serving manager
According to a Bloomberg report, Apple has even brought a high-ranking former hardware employee out of retirement. Laura Legros, who was Vice President of Hardware Engineering until 2022 – directly in Ternus' old department – is returning. She will report directly to Ternus and will receive a VP position again.
The idea: Legros is to have a hinge function to better coordinate different parts of Apple. In her old job, she was responsible for ensuring that product delivery and development functioned and coordinated the various teams. Legros is known from several keynote appearances, for example in 2018 (MacBook Air) and 2020 (iPad Air). It is unusual for Apple to bring employees out of retirement. However, there have been such cases in the past. For example, long-time hardware engineering manager Bob Mansfield was persuaded to help with projects like the failed Apple Car.
