Two women lost money to the tune of ₹14.05 lakh in an online job scam in the district.According to the police, in July 2026, a 32-year-old woman residing in Thalaivasal received a message on a social media platform regarding part-time job opportunities and receiving commission for completing trading tasks.Believing this, the woman sent money to the tune of ₹8.53 lakh to five different accounts and while she tried to get back the money, an unidentified person asked for more money as a processing fee. Following this on Friday (August 7, 2026), she lodged a complaint with the district cybercrime police.Likewise, a 33-year-old woman residing in Edappadi received an advertisement on social media regarding a commission-based job. When she contacted the advertisement, an unidentified person assured her of more profit for her investment. Believing this, she sent a total of ₹5.52 lakh to 10 different accounts in March 2026. However, she did not receive the amount as promised. Following this, on Friday, she lodged a complaint with the district cybercrime police.The police registered cases regarding the two incidents and are investigating further.
