Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso during the MTN8 quartefinal against Polokwane City.
Mamelodi Sundowns may have escaped with a 3-2 extra-time victory over Polokwane City in their MTN8 quarter-final at Lucas Moripe Stadium, but coach Miguel Cardoso bemoaned his team’s handling of set pieces.
Both of Polokwane’s goals came from set pieces, with free kicks being bombed into the Sundowns penalty area.
The African champions did not handle them very well, allowing Rise and Shine to level matters at 2-2 to take the game into extra time.
They ultimately only progressed after substitute Cassius Mailula struck home a late winner upon his return to the club, with coach Miguel Cardoso admitting there is plenty of work to be done at this early stage of the season.
