Gig workers’ unions on Saturday clarified that the indefinite strike scheduled from August 8 had not been withdrawn, but postponed by 10 days. Representatives of various unions said they would review the State government’s response to their demands and decide on the next course of action.The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) and the Telangana App-Based Drivers Forum (TADF) said their demands remained unchanged. The decision to postpone the strike was taken in the interest of “giving the government an opportunity to act on the long-pending demands of gig and platform workers”, they said.The unions said that during a meeting with Joint Commissioner of Labour, Ranga Reddy Zone, Shyamsunder Reddy, they had sought the implementation of relevant guidelines and stipulations, besides protection from unilateral fare fixation by companies. The official sought time to examine their demands, they said.The unions reiterated their demand for notification of minimum base fares, per-kilometre rates and per-minute rates for app-based cab and auto services. They also sought implementation of the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025. The long-standing demand to prevent private vehicles from being used as taxis or delivery vehicles was also reiterated. The unions also called for the immediate notification of the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Rules and the constitution of a welfare board.TGPWU president Shaik Salauddin said the unions hoped the government would use the 10-day period to take concrete decisions on their demands.
