KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli has revealed alarming statistics on political killings in the province, showing that councillors face extreme danger.
The KwaZulu-Natal Premier's office says 18 councillors have been assassinated since the 2021 Local Government Elections, making the province the epicentre of such killings.
Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli provided the statistics in response to the murder of eThekwini Municipality Councillor Sibusiso Khwela, who was shot and killed at his offices in Klaarwater, west of Durban, on Thursday.
According to police, a man walked into Khwela’s office, shot him, and fled in a waiting car. Police are searching for the gunman.
Ntuli called for calm, political tolerance and peaceful coexistence across KZN during the run-up to the LGE in November.
