Springboks assistant coach Mzwandile Stick has warned against dismissing Argentina as rank underdogs, insisting the world champions expect a fierce physical examination in Buenos Aires regardless of who lines up for Los Pumas.
Addressing the media in the Argentine capital ahead of Saturday night’s Test at Estadio José Amalfitani, Stick rejected suggestions that Los Pumas are weakened by the absence of several high-profile European-based players.
With the match falling outside the standard global Release Period, Argentina were forced to name a reshuffled 23-man matchday squad featuring four uncapped players.
Among the players unavailable to head coach Felipe Contepomi are regular captain Julián Montoya, flanker Marcos Kremer, fly-half Tomás Albornoz, centre Santiago Chocobares, No 8 Joaquín Oviedo, scrum-half Gonzalo García, centre Justo Piccardo, and winger Bautista Delguy.
