Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke died from the effects of heroin and cocaine, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, which announced the finding Friday. Clarke, who died on May 11 at the age of 29, was found unresponsive inside a home near Los Angeles. A person familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press after the Memphis Grizzlies announced his death that drug paraphernalia had been found at the residence. Clarke was under contract with Memphis through the 2026-27 season. About six weeks before his death, he was arrested in Arkansas on charges of speeding, reckless driving and possessing a controlled substance.The medical examiner’s office said in a news release that the effects of the drugs were determined to be the official cause of Clarke’s death, which was ruled accidental.
