WASHINGTON, D.C. — Recent reporting has raised serious questions about Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s leadership of the Department of the Interior, describing an agency plagued by dysfunction, rampant staff departures, secrecy, and a management culture that has left career employees demoralized and sidelined. The reports allege that under Burgum’s leadership, experienced public servants have fled the agency while transparency and accountability have been replaced by hubris and paranoia.

Throughout Burgum’s time at Interior, he has worked to hand over treasured public landscapes to the fossil fuel industry, attack commonsense clean energy projects, and censor and erase American history from our national parks.

The Sierra Club has obtained numerous documents via Freedom of Information Requests that illuminate the culture of chaos and disrespect for our public lands under Burgum’s leadership. Those documents are available to review HERE.
