Several oil industry executives are urging President Donald Trump to avoid approving a pause on U.S. exports of petroleum products, warning that any export freeze would not lower surging gasoline prices at home and would cause less U.S. production and more pressure at the pump.
Executives with the American Petroleum Institute and American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers have repeatedly publicly spoken out against any export freeze. And while administration officials have said in the past it wasn’t considered, some industry officials aren’t convinced. “There’s an all-hands-on-deck from industry and inside the administration to stave it off,” an energy industry executive who recently spoke with Politico on the condition of anonymity.While the White House has not formally drafted an export freeze, the executive said, “everyone knows Trump’s gonna Trump.” WHAT TO WATCH WHEN CONGRESS RETURNS:
