The second international conference on Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases was inaugurated recently at SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre (SRMIST), bringing together global scientists and public health experts to discuss strategies for tackling pandemics and strengthening disease preparedness.The two-day conference, organised by the Division of Medical Research at the SRMIST, drew over 400 delegates, including about 200 students, research scholars, and young investigators. About 30 national and international speakers participated in scientific sessions, covering themes such as pandemic preparedness, HIV pathogenesis and emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.The conference highlighted the critical role of interdisciplinary research and international partnerships in strengthening global preparedness against evolving infectious disease threats.While S.P. Thyagarajan, Former Vice-Chancellor, University of Madras, emphasized the need for an integrated approach to combat emerging infectious diseases, Rafick Sekaly, Vice-Chair of Translational Medicine, Emory University, USA, highlighted the importance of nurturing the next generation of researchers.Sunil Narayan, Dean (Research), Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, underscored the significance of scientific engagement in advancing healthcare, R.
