Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Fiorentina signed Argentine teen Franco Mastantuono to a season-long loan from Real Madrid, the Italian Serie A soccer franchise announced Friday.

Mastantuono, 18, totaled three goals over 35 appearances last season for Madrid. The teen midfielder joined the Spanish La Liga power in June 2025 on a six-year deal from Argentina's River Plate.

He made his senior team debut for River Plate in 2024, at just 16. He went on to total seven goals and six assists over 59 appearances for the club.

Mastantuono appeared in World Cup qualifiers for Argentina's national team, but did not make the final cut for the tournament roster. In one of those qualifiers -- a June 5 win over Chile -- he became the youngest player (17 years, nine months, 22 days) in history to represent Argentina on the senior level.
