The Tamil Nadu government had not earmarked any funds exclusively for rehabilitation of the workers in the Manjolai Estate, which has been in the news for a couple of years, said Samam Kudimakkal Iyakkam State president C.J. Rajan here on Friday.In a press release, he said that the workers in the estate had not been begging. It is their fundamental right. Despite struggles to establish their livelihood, nothing tangible had come in so far from the Union and the State governments.The Manjolai estate had been in an imbroglio. The workers and their families had toiled in the locality for over four decades. Whether the eviction was being done as per the law or not, the governments had the moral responsibility to protect the workers, Mr. Rajan said and added that the Tamil Nadu government should announce a package, with which the livelihood of the workers would be assured.The government had to receive around ₹4,650 crore from Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation in the form of arrears and thus, the workers should benefit from the funds. The landless workers should be given dwelling, jobs and education for their wards.The Samam Kudimakkal Iyakkam would fight till the end and approach the court for legal remedy for social security, he said and added that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C.
