Aug. 7 (UPI) -- An Indian woman who hasn't gotten her hair cut since 2015 earned the Guinness World Record when her long locks were measured at 8 feet and 10 inches in length.

Renu Dhariyal, a content creator who shares beauty tips on YouTube, was awarded the title for the longest hair on a living person (female). She took the record from Ukrainian Aliia Nasyrova, whose hair was measured at 8 feet and 5.3 inches long.

"I have been growing my hair continuously since 2015. In Indian culture, long hair is considered a symbol of extreme beauty and tradition, which is what inspired me to grow it so long," Dhariyal told Guinness World Records.

She said her hair requires a lot of maintenance.
