The Sahitya Akademi, the National Academy of Letters and an autonomous body under the Union Ministry of Culture, has accorded recognition to the Writers Academy Trust, Visakhapatnam, as a Literary Association in Telugu.The recognition was conveyed through a letter signed by Varun Gulati, Secretary, Sahitya Akademi, saying the Akademi “is pleased to accord recognition to Writers Academy Trust, Visakhapatnam as a Literary Association in Telugu” and seeking the Trust’s cooperation “in strengthening the cause of literature in Telugu”.V.V. Ramana Murthy, Managing Trustee of the trust and founder-chairman of the Writers Academy, described the development as a milestone in its engagement with Telugu literature, arts and culture over the years.Mr. Murthy said the organisation would work in tandem with the Sahitya Akademi henceforth and would encourage writers and poets to expand literary activity across Telugu-speaking regions.He said the Trust would continue efforts to carry the literary heritage of Uttarandhra to a wider audience.
