Handloom products were displayed at an exhibition organised at Coimbatore Collectorate on Friday to mark National Handloom Day.

About 10 handloom weavers in Coimbatore district received ₹4.47 lakh worth loans at an event held in Coimbatore city on Friday.The loans were disbursed under the Weaver Mudra Loan Scheme, the Old Age Pension Scheme, the Savings and Security Scheme. Further five of them received support under the Handloom Support Scheme to buy loom equipment.The District Revenue Officer of Coimbatore, V. Surendran, inaugurated a special handloom exhibition and sale at the district Collectorate on Friday to mark the National Handloom Day.The exhibition, organised by the Handlooms Department, had various handwoven products such as kora cotton, soft silk, Negamam cotton and Toda embroidery products made in different handloom clusters of the district.Mr. Surendaran said the National Handloom Day is celebrated annually on August 7 to commemorate the Swadeshi Movement launched on this day in 1905 and promote the handloom sector. It will also improve the income of the handloom weavers.A free special health camp for weavers was organised at the Self-Help Group Federation building complex in Vadambacheri (Sulur Taluk) for the weavers.
