Vestas has just installed the most powerful onshore wind turbine in British history.

The Danish manufacturer fitted the 6.2MW EnVentus machine at the Sanquhar II wind farm in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, a matter of days ago.

It is the first of 44 turbines planned for the 308MW project, which is being developed by CWP Energy.

Once it is fully built, Sanquhar II will be the UK's fourth largest onshore wind farm.

It sits right next to Sanquhar I, another joint effort by CWP and Vestas comprising nine wind turbines with a total capacity of around 32MW.
