…As UNIPORT Summit seeks answers to Nigeria’s growing environmental challenges

That Nigeria is in an environmental crisis is not an understatement as decades of environmental neglect is now taking its toll on the ecology, a development that spurred the organisation of a summit to lead discussions on the way out of the ugly situation.

The Environmental Education Summit was organised by the Department of Adult and Non-Formal Education of the Faculty of Education, University of Port Harcourt, and it was expected to proffer workable solutions to the myriad of environmental challenges facing the nation.

So, government officials, policymakers, educators and environmental stakeholders converged on Tuesday, August 4 for the high stakes summit with Patterson Ogon, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), delivered the lead paper, calling for the recognition of Environmental Education (EE) as a critical fourth pillar of ecological governance in order to address Nigeria’s growing environmental challenges.
