In the harbour you would normally see boats moored, but in Budapest a motorbike from the Second World War has now been recovered from the middle of the Danube. On the riverbed at the level of Budapest there are more relics: two soldiers have also been exhumed from the muddy riverbed, according to the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge (German War Graves Commission).
According to its own account, the Volksbund sent a reburial specialist to Budapest, who carried out the exhumation with the help of Hungarian colleagues. Alongside the soldiers’ remains, which were preserved by the mud, numerous German Tellermine 35 anti-tank mines were also found. These were used against tanks during the Second World War.
