More younger women are entering the property market on their own.
More South African women are buying homes in their own names as they increasingly use property ownership to build wealth and secure their financial futures.
New data from BetterBond Home Loans shows that more than 43,000 women applied for home loans during 2024 and 2025, with more than half of those applications coming from first-time buyers. The number of women applying as the main bond applicant also increased by 18% between 2024 and 2025.
"As more women assert their financial independence and flex their purchasing power, we are seeing strong activity from this segment of the market," said Mary Lindemann, COO at BetterBond Home Loans.
The trend reflects a broader shift in how women are creating wealth.
