A 58-year-old woman from the Eastern Cape has appeared in court after allegedly claiming two children were left without parents so she could receive more than R300,000 in foster care grants.
A 58-year-old woman from the Eastern Cape has been charged with fraud for allegedly claiming over R300,000 in foster care grants by falsely stating that the mother of two children had died and their father was untraceable.
Nokwakha Bana was arrested by the Hawks' Serious Commercial Crime Investigation (SCCI) unit in Mthatha on August 5, after the execution of an arrest warrant.
Bana appeared before the Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Thursday.
She is facing charges of fraud, uttering and contravening the Justices of the Peace and Commissioners of Oaths Act.
