The Traitors Ireland will return to RTÉ One and RTÉ Player on Sunday, August 30th.Season one of The Traitors Ireland, which was produced by Kite Entertainment and presented by Derry Girls star Siobhán McSweeney, aired last year and proved a huge hit with Irish audiences. Last year’s figures showed each episode of The Traitors Ireland drew an average audience of 557,000 and a 50 per cent share of live and same-day viewers. The final amassed an audience of 732,000 viewers according to the figures released by RTÉ. Breakout star Paudie Moloney, a retired prison officer, appeared as a reality TV show contestant again in Dancing with the Stars. Taking place in Slane Castle, the reality show gets 24 contestants to play a game of deduction where “faithful” players must eliminate “traitors” to win a €50,000 prize. Meanwhile, traitors eliminate faithful players as the competition progresses. If the faithful players fail to identify all the traitors, the traitors take home the entire cash prize. If they successfully eliminate all the traitors, the remaining faithful players divide up the pot between them. Teresa Smith, commissioning editor for factual entertainment at RTÉ, said the broadcaster is “delighted to welcome audiences back to Slane Castle for a brand new season of The Traitors Ireland”. “The first series captivated viewers across the country, and with this season the stakes are even higher. With a fresh group of players, new twists, new gameplay and plenty of surprises in store, audiences can expect all the drama, intrigue, treachery and unforgettable moments that makes The Traitors Ireland unmissable,” Smith said. Series producer Mairéad Whelan, of Kite Entertainment, said: “Once again, we’ve leaned into our own humour, culture and characters to bring audiences another distinctively Irish version of The Traitors.” [ Possession on Sky Atlantic: A supernatural thriller tied to UK’s unresolved legacy of slaveryOpens in new window ]“This series is riddled with all the twists, turns and tears of an All-Ireland Final, but with new players, it’s a brand new game. Our Traitors and Faithful played a blinder, getting stuck into lies, accusations, murders, missions, banishments and the occasional croissant. We couldn’t be prouder of them or of the creative and talented team behind the scenes that made it all happen.” Accompanying the announcement of the release date of The Traitors Ireland is the news that The Traitors Ireland Uncloaked is also back, and will be presented again by Republic of Telly comedian Kevin McGahern.Filmed in RTÉ Limerick, each episode of The Traitors Ireland Uncloaked will feature extra interviews and unseen footage and will air directly after The Traitors Ireland on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
