Wellington and Wairarapa mayors have agreed to put two amalgamation proposals to ministers by Sunday.In a joint statement, the mayors say a region wide council is being supported by Wellington, Lower Hutt, Porirua and South Wairarapa District Councils.There's also a proposal for a separate Wairarapa unitary council put forward by Carterton and Masterton district councils.The mayors say not every council agrees, and their views will be respected.The proposals will include Upper Hutt City Council's and Kapiti District Council's preferences for alternative arrangements.
