The planned liquefaction plants of the Rovuma LNG project (Daewoo Engineering & Construction) Daewoo Engineering & Construction said Friday it had received a letter of intent from ExxonMobil Mozambique Limitada after being selected as an engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the first phase of the Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique.The company is participating in the project as a prime contractor through the SMDC joint venture, a global consortium comprising Italy's Saipem, US-based McDermott, China's CPECC and Daewoo E&C.The letter of intent covers preliminary engineering, procurement and feasibility reviews ahead of the project's final investment decision. ExxonMobil Mozambique, the project's operator, plans to make a final investment decision by the end of 2026 before signing the full EPC contract and beginning construction.The first-phase development will include an LNG liquefaction plant with an annual production capacity of 18.6 million metric tons, along with a large gas-fired combined-cycle power plant that will supply electricity for an electric-driven liquefaction process and related facilities.Daewoo E&C said it became the first Korean builder to serve as a prime contractor on an LNG liquefaction project through the Nigeria LNG Train 7 development in 2020, working alongside leading global EPC companies.The company added that it was the only Korean builder with project experience across the entire LNG value chain, spanning upstream central processing facilities, midstream liquefaction plants, LNG receiving and storage terminals, and large gas-fired combined-cycle power plants."The letter of intent reflects recognition of our ability to lead global EPC projects alongside the industry's leading contractors, moving beyond the role of a subcontractor," a company official said."Once the project advances to a full EPC contract, we expect to secure a major overseas order and will strengthen our long-term growth through rigorous risk management and technical excellence."
