Ukrainian law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation into the execution of a captured Ukrainian serviceman by Russian troops near the village of Myrne in the Volnovakha district of the Donetsk region on July 22.
The Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office announced this on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.
"On July 22, 2026, the enemy attacked the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Myrne in the Volnovakha district. During the combat mission, the occupiers captured a Ukrainian defender and executed him," the statement said.
A pre-trial investigation has been opened into a suspected war crime resulting in the victim's death under Part 2 of Article 438 of Ukraine's Criminal Code.
