A sale of Tesco’s Central European operations could trigger one of the region’s biggest retail deals in years.

One of the biggest shake-ups in the Slovak retail market in decades may be on the horizon. British supermarket giant Tesco is reportedly considering an exit from Central Europe, a move that could dramatically reshape the region's grocery landscape.

Such a move would involve the sale of its operations in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Although this remains speculative, fresh information suggests that the sale process and the search for potential buyers are already underway.

Mergermarket has reported that Tesco has appointed advisers from investment banks Citigroup and Goldman Sachs to oversee the sale.

The INDEX magazine has examined who might be interested in acquiring the retailer.
