Nigeria has formally joined the World Energy Council (WEC) global network following the constitution of a new National Member Committee and Governing Board, a move set to amplify the nation’s voice in global energy transitions and drive investment into its domestic energy architecture.

The platform, tagged WEC Nigeria, aims to provide an independent, technology-neutral forum for government leaders, corporate executives, financiers, and researchers to address Nigeria’s energy trilemma of balancing energy security, energy equity, and environmental sustainability.

The Governing Board is chaired by Abdulrazaq Isa, Co-founder and Chairman of Waltersmith Petroman Oil Limited and a leading advocate for indigenous energy development, while Bala Wunti, former Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Limited, is expected to serve as inaugural Chief Executive Officer.

Other members of the Board are Wumi Iledare, Mustapha Abdullahi, Aisha Farida Katagum, Ainojie “Alex” Irune, Emmanuel Okon, Victor Ekpenyong and Imamuddeen Talba.

Together, the Board brings extensive experience across energy policy, operations, investment, regulation, technology, research and enterprise development, reflecting the breadth of Nigeria’s energy ecosystem.
