Aug. 6 (UPI) -- A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of killing two people when he drove his car into a crowd of people in Munich, Germany, last year.
The man, referred to as Farhad N, was convicted of two counts of murder, 23 counts of attempted murder and more charges related to the incident.
Farhad N, an Afghan national, drove his Mini Cooper into a crowd of about 1,400 people who were marching in Munich in support of trade unions on Feb. 13, 2025. He struck and killed a 37-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter. More than 40 people were injured.
"In doing so, the defendant sought to commit an act of pleasing to God and to prove himself to be a good Muslim in the eyes of Allah, himself and his family," the judge said.
