NCAA urges Reps to restore 65% TSC share to strengthen aviation safety

ABUJA — The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has urged the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation to restore its original 65 per cent share of the five per cent Ticket Sales Charge (TSC) and Cargo Sales Charge (CSC), warning that any further reduction could weaken Nigeria’s aviation safety oversight and undermine compliance with international standards.

Director-General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Ona Najomo, made the appeal on Thursday during the committee’s public hearing on the proposed review of the allocation formula for the five per cent Ticket Sales Charge and Cargo Sales Charge in Abuja.

Najomo said the NCAA supports adequate funding for all aviation agencies but maintained that if the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) requires additional funding, such resources should be generated through improved commercial operations, greater operational efficiency, enhanced corporate governance or targeted government intervention for strategic infrastructure projects.

He urged lawmakers to restore the original funding formula established when the NCAA and NAMA were created in 1999.
