The family of Ali Larijani, the late Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, along with Mizan News Agency, which is affiliated with the Islamic Republic’s judiciary, has separately refuted claims made by Iranian lawmaker and former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Mohammad Esmail Kowsari, who alleged that Larijani’s location was betrayed through a mobile phone call made by his son.
In a statement released on Thursday, July 27, the Larijani family asserted that Morteza Larijani, Ali Larijani’s son, had not carried a mobile phone for months prior to the outbreak of the war on February 28, noting that “he was also extremely sensitive regarding this matter concerning other companions.”
Kowsari had previously claimed that Ali Larijani’s location was identified “by tracking a phone call made by his son, Morteza Larijani, that very night.” Describing Kowsari’s statements as an “incorrect claim,” the Larijani family urged all media outlets to “strictly refrain from publishing hasty and unscientific statements.”
Meanwhile, Mizan News Agency confirmed the family’s statement, reporting that “judicial investigations do not support such a claim either.” Mizan added that following Larijani’s death, “a judicial case was opened at the Tehran Public Prosecutor’s Office and is currently under investigation.”
