In October 2021 Makgosi Letimile instituted Labour Court proceedings against the CTICC for alleged discrimination she experienced while in its employ.
A long-running legal battle between Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) and a former employee has entered its final stretch, with legal arguments set to determine whether she was unfairly discriminated against and unlawfully retrenched.
Former Food and Beverage Administrator Makgosi Letimile is challenging the CTICC over her treatment during her employment and the termination of her contract for operational reasons in April 2021.
Letimile, who is a wheelchair user, alleged that she was subjected to direct and indirect discrimination on the grounds of her disability and the intersecting grounds of race and gender.
Her case also concerns an alleged automatically unfair dismissal, procedural and substantive unfairness during the retrenchment process, and alleged violations of her constitutional rights.
