In a remote corner of the Central African Republic (CAR), a militia created with government backing and trained by Russian paramilitaries has turned its guns on its former allies.The Azande Ani Kpi Gbe (AAKG) militia emerged in 2023 in Haut-Mbomou, a sparsely populated region in the country’s southeast bordering Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.The area has long been plagued by insecurity, with armed groups operating far beyond the reach of the state.
