Conservative radio host Erick Erickson praised Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) for his “constituent services ” in Georgia in an interview earlier this week, where he also called out the problem with his President Donald Trump-backed opponent.“His constituent services — he’s learned. You talk to farmers in South Georgia; they can get him on the phone. They can get his staff on the phone. They can get help. You talk to Republicans in Houston County, very Republican part of the state. They know they can reach out to Ossoff, and he doesn’t care that they’re a Republican,” Erickson said of the senator on Tuesday’s episode of “Politically Georgia.”Ossoff, a vocal Trump critic, is currently 9 points ahead of the Republican candidate Rep. Mike Collins, according to a recent poll by Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball. Last month, an AARP poll found that 52% of voters surveyed prefer Ossoff over Collins.Erickson told guest host Patricia Murphy that Collins’ campaign problem is that he runs as a Trump loyalist. The president himself faces his own popularity issue as a growing number of Americans disapprove of his handling of the economy and war in Iran. “The problem we’ve got now in the Senate race for Republicans is that Mike Collins is — he’s run the entire race as MAGA,” Erickson said. “You watch his advertising; still, he’s wrapped himself around Donald Trump. He’s not making a case to the suburban voters, and Jon Ossoff is.”“I couldn’t tell you what Mike Collins’ platform is when it comes to anything other than ‘I’m going to be the loyal guy in the Senate,’ which is not what those suburban voters want,” he continued. Ahead of the June primary, Trump on Truth Social said Collins was “a true Friend, Fighter, and WARRIOR, who has been with us from the very beginning.”While the conservative radio host admitted he finds Ossoff “to be a little stiff” and “comes across as a little bit robotic, a little programmed,” he said if constituents, including Republicans, “need something, he’s going to get it done.”“In fact, I have heard behind the scenes there’s often grumbling that [Georgia Sen. Raphael] Warnock feels like Ossoff is taking credit for things he’s done, but it’s effective for him on the campaign trail,” Erickson said.
