Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, announced on Thursday that Vice-President Kashim Shettima will begin a two-week leave on August 6 2026. The statement noted that the period represents his first official leave since assuming office.
The leave was approved by President Bola Tinubu. During the period, Shettima will devote time to study, reflection and intellectual renewal as part of efforts to strengthen his capacity for continued service.
The announcement comes days before the official commencement of presidential campaigns for the 2027 general election. The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the official start of presidential campaigns for August 18 2026. President Tinubu recently re-nominated Shettima as his running mate for a second term.

The presidency stated that the leave offers Shettima an opportunity to review ongoing government programmes, deepen his understanding of emerging policy issues, and prepare for his responsibilities as the administration intensifies the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
