Kisan Janata, a farmers’ organisation functioning under the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has opposed the State government’s decision to disengage service cooperative banks from the distribution of social welfare pensions, terming the move an “anti-people measure” that will severely affect elderly and economically backward beneficiaries.Addressing the media here, Kisan Janata State secretary Johnson Kulathingal and State vice-president P.K. Kunjikkannan alleged that transferring welfare pension disbursements directly to Aadhaar-linked commercial bank accounts would dismantle an efficient, doorstep pension delivery system.They claimed that the new system would force elderly citizens and vulnerable groups to wait in long queues for hours at bank branches and Akshaya centres to withdraw their monthly pensions.
