The flash-flood-affected regions in Kerala experienced intensified rainfall on Thursday (August 6, 2026), influenced by the combined effect of cyclonic circulations over the Bay of Bengal.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert, warning of very heavy rainfall, in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kottayam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Friday (August 7, 2026).The remaining six districts have been put on yellow alert, where isolated heavy rain is expected. According to a weather bulletin issued by the IMD on Thursday, an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over the southeast Bay of Bengal and another upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal coasts. Under the combined effect of the systems, moderate heavy rainfall is likely mainly in the hilly regions of the State for the next two days.Meanwhile, Ayyankunnu in Kannur recorded the highest rainfall of 56 mm up to 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, followed by Vaikkom with 54.5 mm and Koothattukulam with 40 mm.
