Mohamed Salah will arrive in Turkey as the most significant signing in the history of the Super Lig.
To all intents and purposes Salah looked almost certain to move to Saudi Arabia after leaving Liverpool at the end of his contract – not least because of the lack of European clubs able to afford the 34-year-old’s wages.
Instead the forward has joined Trabzonspor on a two-year contract – with more high-profile arrivals expected to follow as the club bids to compete with Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
The i Paper understands ex-Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, a former teammate of Salah’s is also a target as Trabzonspor aim to further add to an attack now boasting Salah and other new signings Aral Simsir and Ernest Muci.
Nunez has previously been monitored by Tottenham Hotspur with some uncertainty remaining over Richarlison’s future. Roberto De Zerbi has been impressed with Dominic Solanke and Mathys Tel can play as a No 9 but that still leaves Spurs relatively light on options after Randal Kolo Muani’s loan spell ended. De Zerbi’s main priority is a wide-forward, with Savinho a long-term target.
