Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday (August 6) accused the United Democratic Front (UDF) government of “completely surrendering” to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) agenda, alleging that it had abandoned its traditional stand against the Sangh Parivar and entered into an “unholy alliance” with it.Addressing a protest meeting organised by the CPI(M) Kasaragod district committee against what it termed the RSS’ “politics of violence” and “temple loot”, Mr. Vijayan alleged that the UDF had retreated from its long-standing opposition to the RSS and the BJP-led Central government.Mr. Vijayan criticised the government’s decision to include non-Muslims in the Wakf Board, claiming that the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government had firmly opposed such a move and had reconstituted the Board without non-Muslim members. He said the current government’s willingness to alter the Board’s composition reflected its submission to the RSS agenda. He also noted that when the LDF assumed office in 2016, it had allowed the Wakf Board appointed by the previous UDF government to complete its term.On education, Mr. Vijayan accused the UDF of facilitating the Centre’s alleged saffronisation agenda through the PM SHRI scheme. He said the LDF had consistently opposed the scheme on policy grounds and had signed the memorandum of understanding only to secure the pending Samagra Shiksha Kerala funds withheld by the Centre. According to him, the LDF later sought to freeze the agreement, whereas the UDF was now proceeding with its implementation.Referring to the alleged NEET examination irregularities, Mr. Vijayan claimed that a Yuva Morcha leader had been identified as being behind the scam, but alleged that both the Centre and the State were protecting those responsible for it. He welcomed the Opposition parties’ protests against the issue, although he said they had responded belatedly.Mr. Vijayan also condemned the alleged remarks by Hindutva ideologue T.G. Mohandas against women and said they reflected a fascist mindset. Published - August 06, 2026 07:08 pm IST
