Jason Arday, the University of Cambridge professor at the centre of a high-profile plagiarism row, has resigned “with immediate effect”.
The University said it had launched an investigation into Arday, a professor of sociology of education, “following new information” about his “academic qualifications and honorary appointments”.
The 41-year-old has admitted errors in his work, but said he had faced “an unrelenting level of public scrutiny and personal attack” and was not a “liar”.
Critics said the affair raised questions about the scrutiny the University applies to applicants in its bid to widen the diversity of its teaching staff.
