Christopher Musa, the Minister of Defence, has applauded President Bola Tinubu for approving a comprehensive salary review for personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, describing the pay increase as a landmark intervention that will significantly improve troop welfare, strengthen morale and enhance the military’s operational effectiveness in the fight against insecurity.
The commendation followed Tinubu’s approval of a new salary structure that provides pay increases ranging from 30 to 80 per cent for military personnel across different ranks, with the new remuneration taking effect from September 1, 2026.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Leah Katung-Babatunde, his Special Assistant on Media, the minister expressed appreciation to the President for what he described as a historic decision that underscores the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of members of the Armed Forces.
According to him, the graduated salary structure reflects a deliberate effort by the Federal Government to reward the sacrifices of military personnel, particularly those serving on the frontline in various theatres of operation across the country.
He said Tinubu had once again demonstrated exceptional leadership and genuine concern for the welfare of officers and soldiers who risk their lives daily to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensure national security.
