The S&P/BMV IPC, Mexico’s main stock index, shed 0.47% to close at 66,537 points, dragged lower by steep drops in retail giant Walmex and telecoms leader América Móvil.

The Mexican peso strengthened marginally, with the dollar falling 0.19% to 17.23 pesos, clawing back some ground as the US currency softened globally.

Walmart de México, known locally as Walmex, tumbled 3.2% on heavy turnover, making it one of the session’s most significant drags on the blue-chip index.

América Móvil, the telecoms empire controlled by the Slim family, slid 3.5%, contributing to the negative tone alongside a 1.8% decline in retailer Femsa.
