Total of volunteers comes from at least 72 countries
Nearly 16,000 foreign volunteers from at least 72 countries are currently serving in Ukraine’s Defence Forces, Ukraine’s Military Ombudsman Olha Reshetilova said.
Speaking at a meeting with heads of Ukraine’s foreign diplomatic missions, Reshetilova said that almost 40% of foreign volunteers are citizens of Latin American countries.
She said that Kyiv is working to establish mechanisms to protect their rights and legitimate interests.
The Office of the Military Ombudsman has created a dedicated working group to examine problems faced by foreign servicemen throughout their entire service cycle, from recruitment and deployment to dismissal, return to their home countries or transition to civilian life in Ukraine.
